Section 4

This section details the roles and responsibilities of practitioners regarding planning and delivering interventions to meet the care and support, protection needs of an adult at risk

This is achieved through:

an adult at risk of abuse and/or neglect: the care and support protection plan.

Practitioners working with the adult at risk have role and responsibilities in relation to the care and support protection plan. Specific roles include:

Delivering the care and support protection plan means the strategy group following the procedures outlined in relation to:

  • developing the plan
  • identifying actions and interventions
  • subsequent strategy meetings: monitoring and reviewing
  • considering action required when a practitioner believes an adult at risk is not being adequately safeguarded by the care and support protection plan.

Engaging the adult at risk in planning is detailed. This includes:

  • securing engagement
  • an adult at risk who does not agree to the plan: harm reduction
  • lack of engagement by the carers or family members with the plan
  • denied access to the adult.

Reviewing the adult safeguarding (adult protection) process requires practitioners:

  • review the care and support protection plan

and secure

  • participation by the adult at risk in the review of their care and support protection plan.

The procedures relating to closure of the safeguarding (adult protection) process is outlined with specific detail on closure due to lack of ongoing engagement by the adult at risk.
